Lüders band
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003460
A localized band of plastic deformation that propagates through a material under tensile stress, appearing as a visible line or pattern on the surface. These bands form in certain ductile metals, such as low-carbon steel, after the yield point is reached. The formation of Lüders bands indicates non-uniform yielding and can affect the surface finish of formed parts.
