Out-of-band signaling

A method of transmitting control information or signaling data over a separate channel from the main data channel. This separation prevents interference between signaling and data traffic, improving reliability and security. An example is the use of a dedicated signaling network in telecommunications, such as Signaling System 7 (SS7).
