Transaction Capabilities Application Part, a protocol within the Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) suite used in telecommunication networks to facilitate non-circuit-related information exchange between network elements. It enables services such as caller ID, toll-free numbers, and mobile roaming by allowing databases to be queried and updated. TCAP operates at the application layer of the SS7 protocol stack.
