T-carrier

A digital transmission system developed by Bell Labs that uses time-division multiplexing to transmit multiple voice or data channels over a single pair of wires. The most common variant, T1, carries 24 voice channels at a total data rate of 1.544 megabits per second. T-carrier systems were widely adopted for long-distance telephone communication and data networking, particularly in North America.
