AMPS

An analog mobile phone system, the first generation (1G) cellular technology widely deployed in North America. This system used frequency modulation for voice transmission and operated in the 800 MHz band. AMPS was characterized by its analog voice quality and limited data capabilities, eventually being superseded by digital cellular standards like GSM and CDMA.
