Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005900
An onboard aircraft system that reduces the risk of mid-air collisions by detecting the presence of other transponder-equipped aircraft. The Traffic Collision Avoidance System interrogates the transponders of nearby aircraft to determine their range, altitude, and bearing, providing pilots with traffic advisories. If a collision risk is identified, the system issues a resolution advisory with specific vertical maneuvering instructions, such as 'Climb' or 'Descend'.
