An aircraft category designation used in air traffic control to identify an aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 300,000 pounds (136,000 kg) or more. This designation alerts pilots of smaller aircraft and controllers to the potential for hazardous wake turbulence generated by the larger aircraft. The term is appended to the aircraft's call sign during radio communications, for example, "Speedbird 217 Heavy".
