Turbulence
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006237
Irregular atmospheric motion characterized by eddies and vertical currents, causing abrupt changes in an aircraft's altitude or attitude. It results from factors such as weather fronts, airflow over mountains, or the wake from another aircraft. Following a severe turbulence encounter, maintenance procedures mandate inspections for structural stress, loose fasteners, and damage to airframe components and engine mounts.
