Breaking point

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000758

The stress at which a material fractures or ruptures under load. It represents the ultimate tensile strength on a stress-strain curve for many materials, marking the transition from plastic deformation to complete failure. For a brittle material, the breaking point occurs with little or no plastic deformation, while for a ductile material, it follows a period of necking.
