Brewster
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000769
A unit of photoelastic stress, defined as 10^-12 square meters per newton (m^2/N). This unit quantifies the stress optical coefficient of a material, which describes how much the refractive index changes under mechanical stress. The Brewster constant is used in the design of optical components that experience mechanical loads.
