Slow light
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005378
A phenomenon where the group velocity of light is significantly reduced, often to hundreds of meters per second or even slower, compared to its speed in a vacuum. This reduction is achieved by passing light through a medium with a highly dispersive refractive index, such as a Bose-Einstein condensate or certain photonic crystals. The effect has applications in optical data processing and quantum information storage.
