Nanophotonics
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003841
The study of light's interaction with materials and structures at the nanometer scale, where dimensions are smaller than the wavelength of the light itself. This field explores phenomena that are not observable in bulk optics, enabling the creation of novel devices for data processing, sensing, and energy conversion. Applications include the development of photonic crystals, plasmonic devices, and near-field optical microscopes that can achieve resolution below the diffraction limit of light.
