Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000164
A recognizable, transported carbonate grain that forms a component of a sedimentary rock, specifically a limestone. Allochems are fragments that have been moved from their place of origin and redeposited, analogous to the sand or gravel grains in a sandstone. The four main types of allochems are intraclasts (reworked limestone fragments), ooids (spherical coated grains), fossils (bioclasts), and pellets (fecal material).
