A type of alkaline igneous rock, specifically a coarse-grained analcime-bearing gabbro or dolerite. It forms from magma that intrudes into other rock formations as sills or dikes and is characterized by its dark color and specific mineral assemblage including pyroxene and olivine. Teschenite is not a primary ore source but is studied for its geological context and its effect on adjacent coal seams or mineral deposits.
