Antecryst

A crystal within an igneous rock that formed in an earlier magmatic event and was later incorporated into the magma from which the host rock crystallized. Antecrysts are distinguished from xenocrysts, which are foreign crystals derived from surrounding country rock. These crystals provide evidence of a complex magmatic history, including magma mixing or the assimilation of older, related crystalline material.
