Aphanitic

Describing the texture of an igneous rock in which the mineral grains are so fine that they are not individually discernible without magnification. This texture results from rapid cooling of magma or lava, which inhibits the formation of large crystals. Volcanic rocks such as basalt often exhibit an aphanitic texture.
