Aphanite

An igneous rock texture where the individual mineral grains are too small to be distinguished with the naked eye, indicating rapid cooling of the magma or lava. This fine-grained texture is characteristic of extrusive volcanic rocks. Basalt and rhyolite are common examples of aphanitic rocks.
