Cryptocrystalline

Describing a rock or mineral texture where the individual crystals are too small to be distinguished even with a petrographic microscope. The crystalline nature is evident only under very high magnification, such as with an electron microscope. Chert and chalcedony are common examples of cryptocrystalline minerals.
