A geographical region containing a concentration of mineral deposits, mines, or prospecting claims, unified by a common geology or a principal commodity like gold or copper. These areas are established for administrative, legal, and geological classification, grouping related ore bodies and mining operations. The boundaries of a district are defined by the extent of a particular geological formation, such as a lode system, or by governmental survey lines for regulatory purposes.
