A video compression paradigm where the encoder is significantly less complex than the decoder, contrasting with conventional codecs like H.264. Distributed Video Coding (DVCS) exploits source statistics at the decoder, allowing the encoder to compress frames independently without complex motion estimation. This approach is suited for applications with limited processing power at the encoding end, such as wireless video sensors, camera networks, and mobile devices.
