Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002142
A practice in architectural preservation where only the facade or exterior shell of a historic building is retained, while the interior and often the structural elements behind the facade are demolished and rebuilt. This approach aims to preserve the streetscape and historical appearance of an area while allowing for modern development behind the preserved front. It is a controversial method, balancing heritage with new construction needs.
