Rehabilitate

To repair, alter, or add to an existing building or structure to return it to a state of utility through repair or alteration, making possible an efficient contemporary use while preserving portions of the structure. The process focuses on upgrading systems, improving safety, and repairing deterioration without completely replacing the entire structure. Rehabilitation is one of four treatment approaches in historic preservation, alongside preservation, restoration, and reconstruction.
