Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004788

A pair of iron plates placed over the rails to act as a ramp or bridge, used to put derailed railway vehicles back on the track. The wheels are hauled across the plates until they drop onto the rail heads. Despite the name it is not a set of points like a track switch, but a pair of loose plates.
