Fat
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002187
Describing composed typographic matter that contains an excessive amount of spacing, either between words or through added lead between lines, to fill a designated area. This composition appears loose and is the opposite of lean matter, which is tightly spaced. Fat matter can also refer to copy that is easily and quickly set by a compositor, such as text with many short paragraphs, lists, or dialogue, because it requires less justification work than dense, solid text blocks.
