The communication channel that transmits signals from a central control station to a remote or subordinate device. In industrial automation and SCADA systems, this link carries commands, setpoints, and configuration data from the master controller to remote terminal units or programmable logic controllers in the field. The corresponding return path for data and status updates from the remote device is called the reverse link.
