Gibson ring

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002566

A retaining ring fitted onto the wheel hub of a railway vehicle to secure the tire. The Gibson ring is a profiled steel ring, which is hammered or pressed into a groove machined between the wheel center and the tire, locking the two components together. This method provides a strong mechanical lock that prevents the tire from moving laterally or coming off the wheel center, even under heavy loads or if the tire loosens from its shrink fit.
