An abbreviation for High Altitude Low Opening, a parachuting technique used in military special operations. Parachutists exit an aircraft at high altitude, often above 25,000 feet, and freefall for an extended period before opening their parachutes at a low altitude. This method minimizes exposure to enemy radar and ground fire.
