A standard abbreviation for flight level, which is a nominal altitude of an aircraft, expressed in hundreds of feet, at a standard atmospheric pressure. Flight levels are used to simplify air traffic control communication and separation. For example, FL250 indicates a nominal altitude of 25,000 feet.
