Hand-off

The process of transferring control of an aircraft from one air traffic control sector or facility to another as the flight progresses along its route. The transferring controller instructs the pilot to change to the frequency of the next controller, who then assumes responsibility for providing separation and instructions. This procedure is also used in maintenance to transfer responsibility for a task or aircraft between shifts or work centers.
