Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003209

A decorative lump or protuberance intentionally created in a material such as yarn or glass. In textiles, it is a small cluster of fibers twisted into the yarn to create a bumpy texture, while in glassmaking, it is a rounded swelling on the stem of a vessel. Unlike a slub, which is an elongated thickening in yarn, a knop is a more compact and rounded feature.
