Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003304

A hem alteration in which the stitching of a garment's hem is unpicked and the folded-up fabric is released to make the garment longer. The old fold line often remains visible as a crease or faded mark unless it is pressed out or covered with trim or tape. It is common on children's clothing and trousers, and it is the reverse of taking up a hem.
