Mercury arc rectifier

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003607

A type of electrical rectifier that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) using an arc discharge in a mercury vapor atmosphere. This device was historically used for high-power applications, such as industrial motor drives and railway traction. It has largely been superseded by solid-state rectifiers due to efficiency and environmental concerns.
