A Silicon Controlled Rectifier, a four-layer solid-state current-controlling device that acts as a unidirectional switch. It remains off until triggered by a small current pulse at its gate terminal, after which it conducts current until the anode current falls below a certain holding value. SCRs are used in power control applications such as motor speed control and light dimmers.
