Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005082
An agricultural hand tool, also known as a flail, used for threshing grain to separate kernels from their husks after harvesting. It consists of a long handle connected by a short chain or leather thong to a shorter, free-swinging wooden club, which is repeatedly struck against the harvested stalks. This manual method of threshing was largely superseded by the invention of mechanized threshing machines in the 18th and 19th centuries.
