Whip
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006582
A single-part line rove through a single block, used for hoisting light loads. This simple tackle arrangement offers no mechanical advantage, only changing the direction of the pull, meaning the force required to lift the load is equal to the load's weight. A whip is also the lightest and fastest line on a traditional derrick or crane, used for handling small items and tools.
