The part of a tackle's rope that is hauled upon to lift a load, or the entire length of rope used in a block and tackle system. The rope is reeved through a set of blocks to create a mechanical advantage for hoisting heavy objects like lifeboats or cargo. The hauling part is the free end pulled by personnel or a winch, while the standing part is the fixed end.
