Tug

An iron hook fixed to a hoisting tub, the container used to raise coal, ore, or water in a mine shaft, to which the tackle or hoisting rope is attached. The tub hangs from the hook while it is wound up the shaft, and the hook is the point where the tub is attached to and released from the rope.
