Tackle block

A mechanism consisting of one or more pulleys or sheaves mounted in a frame, used with rope or cable to create a mechanical advantage for lifting or pulling. The number of sheaves in the block determines the theoretical mechanical advantage. A single block provides a 1:1 ratio, while a double block provides a 2:1 ratio.
