Crowbarred

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001467

Describing an electronic circuit that has been intentionally short-circuited to protect downstream components from an overvoltage condition. A crowbar circuit employs a switching device, such as a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) or a TRIAC, to rapidly create a low-resistance path across the power supply output. This action causes the power supply's fuse to blow or its circuit breaker to trip, disconnecting the faulty voltage.
