Metallostatic
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003620
The pressure exerted by a column of molten metal at a specific point, resulting from the force of gravity. This pressure increases with the depth and density of the liquid metal, influencing mold filling, feeding of castings, and the potential for defects like porosity. Metallostatic pressure is calculated using the formula P = ρgh, where ρ is the density of the molten metal, g is the acceleration due to gravity, and h is the height of the liquid metal column above the point of measurement.
