An event or location occurring in the air during flight, distinct from ground operations. The term is most frequently used in the context of a midair collision, which is an accident where two or more aircraft come into contact while airborne. It is also used to describe other in-flight procedures or events, such as midair refueling, where one aircraft transfers fuel to another during flight.
