Middle mile

The segment of a telecommunications network that connects the core network infrastructure to the local access network, or "last mile," which reaches end-users. This segment bridges the gap between high-capacity backbone networks and individual subscriber connections. It often involves fiber optic cables or high-capacity wireless links to aggregate traffic from multiple last-mile connections.
