Mouse
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003774
A small lashing of twine or marline passed around the point and back of a hook to prevent it from accidentally disengaging from a load. This seizing, also called mousing, closes the open part of the hook, securing the connection to a sling, eye, or shackle, especially when the line might go slack. It is a temporary but effective safety measure, distinct from a permanent safety latch or clip built into the hook's design.
