Moundsman

A man, in historical survey practice, employed to dig pits and raise earth mounds that served as reference markers for a survey. The word is also baseball slang for a pitcher, taken from the mound on which the pitcher stands. The pitcher's mound rises 10 inches above the level of home plate.
