New Zealand cotton

A soft bast fiber from the inner bark of the New Zealand ribbonwood tree, Plagianthus regius (formerly P. betulinus), which resembles cotton in appearance. It is not true cotton, which comes from Gossypium seed hairs, and it differs from New Zealand flax, Phormium tenax, known in Maori as harakeke.
