Road-railer

A semi-trailer or freight container equipped with both conventional road wheels and a retractable set of railway wheels for intermodal transport. This design allows the trailer to be hauled by a truck on public roads and then coupled together to form a train for long-distance rail transport. Road-railer systems eliminate the need for flatcars, as the trailers themselves form the train consist.
