A functional or decorative opening on the hood or side of a vehicle designed to direct airflow. A functional scoop channels air to the engine compartment for cooling or to an intercooler for forced induction systems. Decorative scoops, often found on performance-oriented vehicles, mimic the appearance of their functional counterparts without serving an active purpose.
