Soil stack

A vertical pipe in a plumbing system that carries waste from toilets and other fixtures containing human waste to the building's main drain. It also serves as a vent pipe, allowing air to enter the drainage system to prevent siphoning of water from traps. Building codes specify minimum diameters and venting requirements for soil stacks.
