Crawl space

A shallow, unfinished, and unheated area between the ground and the first floor of a building, providing access to plumbing, electrical wiring, and other utilities. It is too low to stand in, requiring a person to crawl to move around inside. Building codes specify minimum heights, ventilation requirements, and the installation of a vapor barrier on the ground to control moisture and prevent damage to the structure.
