Universal logic gate

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006358

A logic gate that, through combination with itself, is able to implement any Boolean function without needing other types of gates. This property simplifies circuit design and manufacturing by allowing complex logic to be built from a single, repeated building block. The two universal logic gates are NAND (NOT-AND) and NOR (NOT-OR); for example, an inverter (NOT gate) is created by connecting both inputs of a NAND gate together.
